From Neighbors to Community:
Redesigning Systems Through Connection for Women

A peer-led, community-rooted initiative strengthening women, families, workplaces, and communities across Pierce County.

What We’re Addressing

Women sustain early learning, nonprofit, and small business sectors while navigating caregiving for children and aging relatives, mental and physical health needs, and inflexible workplace systems. These realities—often invisible in traditional workplace design—drive burnout, isolation, and workforce exit.

Neighbors to Community responds by redesigning how systems support women, centering peer leadership, caregiving realities, and community connection.

About the Initiative

Our Approach
Neighbors to Community is grounded in the belief that women already solve problems together every day. This initiative formalizes and strengthens those solutions—connecting informal community support with formal workplace and systems change. Rather than creating new programs in isolation, we strengthen what already exists by redesigning how systems function around women’s lives.

Community Navigators
Community Navigators are trusted peers who reflect the communities they serve, including Black, Latine, immigrant and refugee women, Queer and LGBTQ+ individuals, single mothers, and women navigating the sandwich generation.

Navigators support access to:

  • Childcare and after-school programs
  • Informal “auntie” care
  • Elder care and adult day programs
  • Transportation and carpools
  • Mental health peer and professional support
  • They also bring lived experience into employer coaching and policy discussions.

Our Partners

This initiative is led by community-serving, women-led organizations committed to equity, care, and systems change.
